Jasper Starky

Jasper Starky was born at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday the 11th October near Liverpool in 1967.
A life long Beatles fan he was amazed to learn recently that George Harrison's parents lived in short walking distance from his home at the time of his birth.
Harrison was visiting them regularly there.

Within a year his parents moved and settled in a village called Balloch on the
bonny  banks of Loch Lomond, Scotland, where he lived for 5 years.

Jasper then moved with his family down to Devon where his formative years were spent in and around Barnstaple.  He left North Devon College (Now "Petroc") for Suffolk Higher College where he graduated in Graphic Design and illustration.  He worked in  central London as a graphic designer for nearly three years.

He left the graphic design world to paint, beginning with his first ever oil study (of his 2 year old daughter) in 1994.  In preparation he undertook an depth study of the colourist techniques of the French impressionists and painted landscapes and still life studies full time from 1994 to 2010.

In 2001 he took up a daily spiritual practice (Transcendental Meditation) which he says has very much deepened his approach to painting and his enjoyment of music.  He's "a yogi".

From 2010 - 2020 he worked with equal intensity and study on song writing and sound production.   Now in 2021 he has returned to his painting vocation and is painting portraits of folk heroes of the music world,  with the hope of including several of his own heroes .

Says Jasper:  "I've played guitar almost every day since I was 16, that has been the blessing, and greatest joy in my life... and this love of music fuels my intense focus on light and colour in paint!".
