My paintings are recordings of experiences and places that make me feel most alive. I focus on the forever-changing elements and call this ’Elemental Motion’. Bellowing clouds, incoming storms and fizzing waves. Capturing immersive sensory moments, such as cool water swirling over skin, sea spray hitting my face, wind dancing with my hair.
I am based in Braunton, North Devon working out of an old barn conversion, completed in early 2016. The white-washed studio has views of the estuary and distant dunes. It was originally built as a textile and printing room; for my specialised practice of surface pattern at college, but days into the space I was commissioned a Woolacombe beach painting by a family member, and I’ve not looked back since
Growing up, all I knew is that I wanted to work for myself, I just didn’t know what doing, until I found canvas and paint! After working 2 years as a PA, in 2018 I left my 9-5 to pursue art full-time. I always say I became a successful Artist as soon as I took this leap. In 2019 I was represented by Saatchi Art and exhibited in ‘The Other Art Fair’, London, which was a 10 year goal let alone a 10 month one!
Primarily I use oil paint, but often incorporate spray paint and hand-made rock pigments too. These liquid layers are poured, splashed and scratched into, to form a flow of marks and textures that are visually tactile.
Inspired by the hues and shapes of the coastline, my drawing style is a combination of refined colour studies and simplistic line, to emphasise the textures and marks of angular rocks or cotton white clouds.
Inks, watercolours and a fine liner are my trusty sketching mediums on trips to the local beaches, coves and headlands.
